Introduction To Bouldering at Rotary Park, Fort Collins

Ages: 9-17

Minimum amount of Climbers to run course: 6

Max/Capped amount of climbers: 10

What to Expect:

Through this program, students will learn how to transition from climbing in the gym to bouldering outdoors. We will spend a fun and supportive day out at Rotary Park where we will practice what we learn on a variety of boulder problems, with a wide-range of difficulty. 

What We Will Cover:

  • History of bouldering
  • Transition from gym to outside: spotting, pad placement, topping out, down-climbing, grading
  • Environmental impacts and Leave No Trace as well as other outdoor considerations and ethics
  • Finding your project (problem selection)
  • How to work on your project
  • Proper resting
  • Technique: falling, traversing, crimpers, mantels, slopers, dynamic vs. static, body tension
  • Individual support, coaching, and mentorship

 

*We will provide crash-pads and shoes, but let us know if you have your own!
